Church at fishing village of Sakitsu facing calm Yokaku Bay. Current church where three times of rebuilding was carried out since the Meiji era was founded in 1934 by harubu father. Church constructed by Yosuke Tetsukawa of Nagasaki is solid Gothic style that raised cross on the spire, and, in the temple, it is in tatami mat caution money. In addition, in the place with altar of the front, severe painting stamping was carried out for the prohibited religion era.
In 1569, faith has been protected as "hiding Christian" for 240 years by Father Lewis de Almeida while receiving intense oppression after prohibited religion ordinance in 1638 with it was this ground where Christian propagation was carried out.
This church is also called "Lord of Heaven temple of the sea", and the fishing port whole area where church is built is chosen as Japanese beach 100 selections "village Sakitsu of Christian" in 1996, and, in 2001, fishing village scenery of Amakusa-shi Sakitsu is chosen as "scenery of important sentence of country" the Japanese fragrance landscape 100 selections "Kawaura Sakitsu Lord of Heaven temple and seas" in 2011.
In addition, we aim at world heritage registration of 2016 with Kumamoto, Nagasaki, municipalities concerned.
